A stray dog was allegedly thrown to its death from the seventh floor of an apartment building in Greater Noida on Thursday, sparking outrage among animal welfare activists on social media platforms.

The incident occurred at Vihaan Heritage Sapphire Society in Sector 1, Greater Noida.

Surbhi Rawat, president of People for Animals and a resident of Ghaziabad, first brought attention to the incident on social media platform X on, sharing CCTV footage of the shocking event.

“People living in Vihaan Heritage Sapphire Society in Greater Noida Sector 1 took the dog to the roof under the pretext of feeding it and threw it down from the top, resulting in the dog’s immediate death,” Rawat wrote in her post on Saturday.

The activist also tagged her post to Noida Police, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and other officials for action.

The CCTV footage captures the tragic moment when the dog falls to the ground with a violent impact, instantly succumbing to the fall.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Rawat revealed that Sushmita Jaiswal, a dog feeder and resident of the same society, informed her about the incident.

According to Jaiswal, who also spoke to the publication, the incident came to light when a society member informed her that a female dog had died after being thrown from the seventh floor around 11:30 am on June 20.

“The security guard took the picture and shared it with our society’s WhatsApp group. After I confirmed it with the guard, we started looking for the CCTV footage. After two days, we got footage but only from the ground floor,” Jaiswal said.

“We were used to feeding these dogs. She was a smart and sensible dog. The boundary walls of the terrace are four feet tall, so the dog can’t jump on her own, she added.

Additionally, Station House Officer (Bisrakh) Arvind Kumar stated that as of now, no FIR had been filed. “We are investigating the CCTV footage and then will look into the matter,” he noted.

The identity of the person responsible for throwing the dog still remains unclear.
