Victim was unwell therefore, he decided to miss the school for a day.

Lucknow: A 10-year-old boy was allegedly singed with a burning candle and beaten up by his teacher in a school in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district for taking leave without informing authorities, police said on Tuesday.

"The incident took place in the St Martin school in Deoria and Aman Kumar, a Class 4 student, was subjected to inhuman treatment," Inspector Qazi Mohammad Ibrahim said.

Aman, who stays in the school hostel, was unwell on Monday and therefore decided to miss the school and rest in his room instead. But after school hours, his teacher Joel went to Aman's room and started beating him with a belt and even singed him with a burning candle for not attending classes, Ibrahim said.

A case against Joel was registered on Monday night on a complaint by Aman's father Sanjay Kasera.

"The teacher is absconding. Efforts are on to nab Joel," said Ibrahim.

Aman is undergoing treatment in the district hospital and is said to be out of danger, according to the doctors, the official added.
