New Delhi: Bringing respite to thousands of schoolchildren from the tormenting heat, the Delhi Government on Monday ordered closure of all aided schools in the city from Wednesday.

Government schools in the city had already been closed from May 1.

"The Delhi Government has directed the closures in view of the searing heat-wave sweeping across North India," Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said.

The Government has also issued an advisory to nearly 1,200 public schools in the capital to advance their two-month summer break scheduled to begin on May 15 by a week.

North India has been reeling under blistering heat-wave conditions for the past several days with the mercury crossing the 44 degrees celsius mark in the national capital during the

weekend.
