HYDERABAD: Students and job aspirants in the state can kiss their Sundays goodbye this summer. For no Sunday will be without a recruitment examination or entrance exam taking place -- either national-level or state-level.With the state government announcing recruitment to a total of 1.16 lakh jobs and several educational entrance examinations coming up, Sundays will see students and job hopefuls hunched over their answer sheets. The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) has so far issued nearly 50 notifications for jobs and announced the examination schedules for all of them. And more are due from the state’s apex recruiter. APSRTC, the power utilities and the revenue department are also planning to conduct examination to recruit for their vacancies. With so much recruitment happening and so many entrance exams coming in a rush, schedulers are tearing their hair to find slots that allow students to prepare for other jobs/tests as well. With Sunday slots hard to get, some exams have had to be scheduled on Saturdays. For instance, the Andhra Pradesh State Higher Education Council (APSHEC) decided to conduct Eamcet on May 12, a Saturday.Announcing the dates of various common entrance examinations, APSHEC chairman P Jayaprakasha Rao said Eamcet had to be accommodated on a second Saturday because Sundays were already booked. The Andhra Pradesh Police Recruitment Board is poised to conduct written examinations for constables and sub-inspectors.But non-working days are hard to get. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Prelim exam is also scheduled to held on May 20, a Sunday.Amidst the rash of exams happening, there are regular annual exams coming up as well. The Intermediate examinations will be held between March 3 and April 21 and the SSC examination between March 26 and April 11.The universities will have to conduct degree and post-graduate examinations, as well as their entrance tests between April and June. Schedulers have had to think hard to time their schedule so that it does not clash.
