Superstar Rajinikanth: 'Boss' turns 60
India's best loved superstar Rajinikanth turns 60. His fans in Chennai have gone to the temples to pray for him.

New Delhi: Rajinikanth has a career spanning 35 years in which he has delivered more hits than any other star. His story has fascinated fans world over.He has also been a recipient of the "Padma Bhushan" award.

Born Shivaji Rao Gaikwad on 12 Dec 1949, into a Maharashtrian family. It took many flips, kicks and hits for the unassuming bus conductor to become one the biggest superstars of Tamil cinema.

He made his debut in 'Apoorva Raagangal' in 1975.

The star power also showed in his latest release - Shankar's Enthiran

which is said to be the most expensive Indian film ever and has him romancing none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan onscreen. The film went on to make a whopping Rs 250 crores worldwide cementing the Rajini phenomenon.

Enthiran is a far cry from his first film -1975's 'Apoorva Raagangal' with which K Balachander launched Rajinikanth in a supporting role of a villain. Soon the actor became popular for his many negative roles including that of Parattai in '16 Vayathinile'.

The 80s saw Rajini juggle many roles with equal ease be it an underworld don in 'Billa' or a rustic man in 'Murrattu Kalai' and then there was 'Thillu Mullu' the remake of 'Golmaal' in Tamil which showcased his impeccable comic timing.

Even as he continued to deliver hits in Tamil, Rajini's foray into Hindi cinema in the 80s proved to be a damp squib. While 90s ushered in Rajiini as the reigning superstar of Tamil cinema with hits like 'Badsha', 'Muthu', 'Arunachalam' and 'Padayappa'. His style and dialogue delivery made him a favourite of the masses and the highest paid Indian actor.

Even today, a Rajini release spells mass hysteria and on his 60th birthday we wish him many more films.
