Tax: 45 corporators threaten to quit

As many as 45 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation  corporators of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have threatened to submit their resignation to GHMC commisisoner MT Krishna Babu if the corporation proposes to increase the property tax.

In a representation submitted to the commissioner, GHMC TDP floor leader Singireddy Srinivas Reddy said the TDP will strongly oppose any to increase the property tax. He said that residents of the city are facing with various problems due to the mismanagement and misdeeds of the administration in the GHMC. Addidng to their woes, the GHMC is contemplating revising the property tax with the machinery collecting data and proposing the new rates.

“It is pathetic to note the abnormal price rise of the essential commodities. Petroleum products, LPG, electricity tariff, RTC and railway fares, all have witness abnormal rate hikes. Now it is the turn of the property tax. We will vehemently oppose this move” he said.

The citizens had raised their voices in protest against GO Ms no. 88 issued in 2011, which revised property tax rates. Not even a year has passed when the GHMC has proposed renewed revision of the property tax.  “It is ironical that any such step would diminish the image of the GHMC. As public representatives, we cannot face the public if we cannot halt this revision. If this move is not stopped, we would be left with no other option than to quit” he said.

What's your reaction?
