New Delhi: The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till noon on Thursday following demands for a separate Telangana state as well as protests on the Sethusamudram project and the Cauvery waters dispute.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) members from Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh raised the issue of a separate Telangana state for a third day in the Lok Sabha. They also displayed placards with slogans like "Indecision causing innocent deaths" and "Introduce Telangana Bill, Jai Telangana".
Some members also called for declaring Sethusamudram - the mythical bridge built by Lord Ram to reach Sri Lanka - a national heritage.
BJP members displayed placards asking for justice for Karnataka in the Cauvery river water dispute. The party had also given notice in the lower house for suspension of question hour to discuss the Cauvery water dispute and drought conditions in Karnataka. BJP has been demanding a relief package for the drought-like condition in the state.
Shiv Sena members demanded a package for farmers in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region. Amid the din, the lower house was adjourned till noon.
In the Rajya Sabha, the scenes were similar and BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu raised the issue of Sethusamudram.
Telangana MPs also displayed placards, and as the ruckus continued, the house was first adjourned for 15 minutes and then till noon.
