New Delhi: Central intelligence agencies have warned the Gujarat government of a terror threat to the Lord Jagannath rath yatra that takes place in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
Gujarat Director General of Police SS Khandvawala said the intelligence inputs inform that terrorists may come disguised as mahants or policemen.
“Yes, there are inputs of that kind. This input has come and such things cannot be ruled out. Policemen have been given I-cards and we have asked them to be familiar with all other cops so that such things can be prevented,” Khandvawala said.
The police have tightened security across the state in view of the terror threat.
The 132nd annual Lord Jagannath rath yatra will be taken out in the city on June 24 by the Jagannath temple.
The rath yatra will pass through its traditional route in the areas including Raipur, Khadia, Saraspur, Kalupur, Prem Darwaja, Delhi Chakla, Shahpur, Ghee kanta and Manekchok.
Around 1,000 devotees will pull the chariots throughout the day.
Around five lakh people are expected to walk during the day-long rath yatra as more than 2,000 saints from across the country take part in the procession.
