A range of handmade, attractive and reliable products, both functional and aesthetic, are on display at the Kudumbashree Trade Fair inaugurated by Works Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju on Thursday.
Organised as part of the 14th anniversary celebrations of Kudumbashree, the products are made by women of different clusters in various parts of the state as part of the employment for women empowerment schemes.
A food court and cultural programmes are the highlights of the fair. On Thursday and Friday, the delicacies from Malabar will be served. ‘Unnakaya’,’chattipaththala’, ‘irachipaththala’, ‘pazhamnirachathu’ and a variety of non-vegetarian dishes will be served. To augment the taste of Malabar, cultural programmes of Malabar will be staged. On Thursday, teams from Kasargod staged Janapath nritya, a dance form of Karnataka, Mangalam kali, a tribal dance, Gujarati nritya and Alamkali.
Teams from Kannur staged ‘kolkali’ and mime show. The team from Wayanad staged Adivasi dance.
A range of Malabar cuisine will be dished out and cultural shows staged on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday the typical cuisine and culture of Travancore will be showcased and the next two days are set aside for Kochi’s tastes, sources said. The racks of the food stalls are filled with a variety of chips, pickles, ‘avolose podi’, ‘unniyappam’, other traditional Kerala snacks and home-made chocolates. As part of branding Kudumbashree products condiments and powders labelled ‘home shop’ including ‘puttu’, ‘appam’, rice, chilly powder are available.
Gowns, towels, bread trays lined with fabric and shirts are on display at the clothes stall. Handmade footwear, bags, knives of various shapes and sizes, metal cookery ware, brass and bronze lamps, Aranmula mirror, and a range of handicraft made from different materials, and murals are also on display. The price of the products ranges from Rs 20 to above Rs 1000.
The products of Charutha, the new tourism venture of Kudumbashree, are also on display. The fair will end on October 2.
