Bangalore-based Manjunath Bhat, freelance architect, calls himself an owl. He says it’s because he works all night to create lamps based on shapes inspired by modular geometry and Archimedian solids. The result is objects With Light (OWL), a year-old outfit that is part of Anamik Design Studio in Bangalore. The eco light projectBhat uses eco-friendly materials and explains how he has taken his passion of creating lamps to the next level. ‘‘Though I have been creating lamps since my architecture days at MiT, Manipal, OWL was founded when I decided to take my hobby seriously and manufacture decorative lighting fixtures,’’ he begins. The material used is recycled polymer — a combination of recycled polymer and virgin polymer that can be washed with soap and water. Bhat adds that wastage is kept to a minimum. Made to suitWith over eight years of experience under his belt, Bhat works single-handedly to create different formats of lamps like pendants, suspension lamps, floor lamps and sconces. Suiting contemporary and minimalist spaces, the shades made with interlocking elements can be assembled into different shapes to create patterned light. Custom work is also undertaken on panels, partitions and ceilings. Bhat, 32, hopes to start retailing in Mumbai, Chennai and Pune soon. For now, check out his fascinating structured work on shopo.in/shop/OWL. Coming upObjects Without Light, which will be ready by the end of the year. OWL is priced between `400 and `20,000.
