Legendary rockers The Who will be honoured with the Freddie Mercury Lifetime Achievement Award in London.

Washington: Legendary rockers The Who will be honoured with the Freddie Mercury Lifetime Achievement Award at the Vodafone Live Music Awards, which debuts in London on October 6.

Surviving members of the band, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, will collect the award on behalf of the band.

The selection of The Who for this award came after executives from all major British record labels voted for them.

"Freddie would surely have approved of this. He loved nothing more than the sound of a guitar being played with passion and skill," Contactmusic quoted a spokesman as saying.

Freddie Mercury Lifetime Achievement Award has been set up to honour the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, who died in 1991.
