Three mowed down by speeding lorry

ALAPPUZHA:  The morning walk by three youngsters proved fatal when they were run over  by a speeding lorry at Maliyekkal junction, Kariyilakkulangara, on the National Highway early on Wednesday. The deceased are Anoop, 18, and Arunkumar, 14, sons of Ashokan and Indiramma, Chaithram house, Pathoyoorkala, Kayamkulam,  and  their relative Pramod, 16, son of Premkumar and Padmakumari,  Mezhoorpadeetathil house. The lorry sped away after the accident.Some bike riders saw the bodies of the youths lying on the road and informed the Highway Police. Arunkumar  and Anoop  died on the spot. Pramod  died on way to the hospital, police said.Arunkumar was an 8th standard student in Mattom St John’s School and Pramod a Plus-1 student in the Muthukulam Sanskrit HSS. A  police team led by Kayamkulam  CI  A R Shanihean arrested the lorry driver Abdul Salam, 24, Erannickal house Erivayoor, Palakkad, from Chathannoor in Kollam.The bodies of the youths were handed over to the relatives after  postmortem. The funeral will be held on Friday. The father of Anoop and Arunkumar, who is  in the Gulf, will reach home on Thursday, said the relatives.
