T'puram: 3 killed, 20 injured in 6 separate accidents
Three persons died and as many as 20 persons, including two children, were injured in six separate road accidents.

Thiruvananthapuram: Three persons died and as many as 20 persons, including two children, were injured in six separate road accidents in the district on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Dr Ramachandran Nair, 68, of Jagathy, Shiji, 32, of Chirayinekeezhu and Kumaravelu, 90, of Parassala.

Dr Ramachandran Nair was killed when the car in which he was travelling from the city to Kadakkavur collided with a KSRTC bus, which was coming in the opposite direction, at Vembayam. The accident occurred around 3.30 p m and though he was immediately rushed to a hospital in Venjarammodu, he was declared brought dead. Dr Ramachandran Nair was a consultant physician at a private hospital in Kadakkavur. He is survived by wife Sulekha and children Manu and Indhu.

In another accident, Shiji, who was running a beauty parlour at Azhoor, Chirayinkeezhu, was killed while she was on her way home near Azhoor Temple. The mishap occurred around 12.30 p m when a van coming in the opposite direction hit her scooter at the junction. Her children, Prince, 11 and Queen 9, who were riding pillion were seriously injured in the accident. They were admitted to the Medical College Hospital here. She is survived by husband Suresh. The police has taken the van into custody.

In the third mishap, Kumaravelu met with the accident at 9 am at Kurumkutti, Parassala when he was returning home at Madavila, from his son’s home near Kurumkutti checkpost. He was hit by a tourist bus with Karnataka registration. Though he was rushed to the Medical College hospital, he succumbed to injuries in the afternoon.

In another accident, around 14 persons were injured, when a bus in which around 30 persons of a prayer group were travelling, lost control after one of its tires bursted at Kaduvapally near Kallambalam at 9 am in the morning. They were travelling from the city to Kollam. The injured were admitted to a nearby private hospital. The police said that none of them were seriously injured.

At Pothencode, an autorikshaw driver was injured when an ambulance collided with his vehicle at Kattayikonam. The ambulance was carrying a patient from the city to a hospital in Pandalam. The patient, who escaped unhurt, was later shifted to another ambulance.

In yet another accident in Parassala, three persons were injured when the lorry they were travelling lost control and rammed into a wall at Kottamath around 9.30 am. Ganesh, 50, Suresh 46 and Murukesh 27 hailing from Mailam, Kanyakumari were admitted to the Medical College Hospital, here.
