Trade union leaders, 750 activists arrested

CHENNAI: Several Central Trade Union leaders were arrested along with their supporters for staging a road roko in a nationwide prison filling protest held here in front of Central Railway station, on Tuesday.Members who were gathered before the Memorial Hall were led by CITU State general secretary for TN - A Soundararajan.Sensing trouble, adequate measures were taken by the police. Protestors condemned the Centre for its inefficiency to control the prices and called on the Centre to implement all the Labour Welfare Acts in action and to initiate stringent actions against the delinquent officials. They also sought an amendment to the Minimum Wages Act and to fix the minimum wage of  10,000.Over 750 members including women were arrested.
