KOCHI: The dismantling process of the North RoB may witness a major jolt as traders near the overbridge are upset with the delay in the ongoing work. According to the traders, no work has been done in the last one week. They say if the work continues at such ‘snail’s pace’ they will launch an agitation.On Tuesday, some of the traders near the North RoB protested against the ongoing work as the onsite tinned barriers were disrupting the way to their shops. The shop owners accused the work supervisor of not listening to their rightful demands. As the protest started heating up, the metro rail officer interrupted and granted the demands of the traders.“We are supporting the Metro Rail Project and have stood with the corporation regarding the work. But for last one week no work is being done and if the work continues at such snail’s pace, it will not end on time. Our business is already getting affected by the project. We cannot sit idle for another five-six years. Most of the traders here took heavy loans to start this business and with such low business , we cannot even earn enough to pay the interest to the bank. If the work does not speed up, we will agitate. We are left with no choice now,” said Ajayan, a trader near RoB.Meanwhile, the vendors who were shifted to Paramara, also came down heavily against the corporation. “The work of the temporary shed is no where near completion. The authorities had promised to finish work of the temporary shed within days. However, only the roof of the shed is done. It will take more than two weeks to complete the work. Materials to be shifted are kept open and are rusting in the rain.” said Sajeer, a vendor underneath the RoB.
