HYDERABAD: A sub-inspector of police attached with the traffic wing submitted his ‘resignation’ on Wednesday allegedly unable to bear harassment by his superior. The SI was allegedly being abused for having a beard and also for giving bribes (mamools) by an assistant commissioner of police. The SI, 57-year-old Md Aziz Ahmed Ghori is attached with Charminar traffic police and was working there since the past eight months. Ahmed Ghori joined police service as a constable and subsequently got promoted as an SI a year ago. Though the SI claimed he had tendered his resignation to the ACP himself, the officer in question, T Pullinder Reddy said he did not receive any letter.“The ACP is harassing me to give mamools and also abusing me for having a beard. He wants me and other sub-ordinates to pay him money and has fixed a rate for each of us,’’ Ahmed Ghori alleged adding he had even complained about his superior’s behaviour to the additional commissioner of police (traffic) CV Anand. Ghori said he tendered his resignation to the ACP on Wednesday. Pullinder Reddy, however, said he did not receive any letter and refuted the allegations. “I never harassed him or even issued a memo against him. I got complaints against the SI on Tuesday and today also and when I sought an oral explanation, he started to say I am abusing him and took out a letter and said it is his resignation letter. He, however, picked it and left the place,’’ the ACP said. Pullinder Reddy said there were complaints that Ahmed Ghori was collecting bribes from commuters and fearing action against him, the SI started to counter-attack. Meanwhile, additional commissioner of police (traffic) CV Anand said deputy commissioner of police A Ravi Krishna would enquire into the matter. On allegations levelled against the ACP, Anand said the SI should had have taken up the matter during the recent counselling of promoted SI’s. “He should at least have approached the DCP before tendering his resignation,’’ Anand said adding action would be taken based on the enquiry report.
