Mumbai: Two file noting related to the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society scam have gone missing from Maharashtra's Urban Development Department office. The file noting dated August 30, 2009 and November 1, 2010 have gone missing.
The Urban Development Department has registered a case of theft and attempt at destruction of record at the Marine Drive police station.
According to the Urban Development Department information given to Central Bureau of Investigation page number 15, 97, 99 and 279 from Noting Number 154/99 are missing.
Reacting to the news, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called it a matter of "huge concern".
"The most important pages of Adarsh society file have gone missing. Notings of ministers and bureaucrats was on these files. It is a matter of huge concern. When on some matter a chief minister quits, that file should have been kept safe," said BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.
Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society situated in Mumbai's Colaba area was originally meant for Kargil War heroes and their dependents. However, most of the flats in society were cornered by senior politicians and bureaucrats of Maharashtra in collusion with some senior armed forces officials creating a major uproar. Many defence forces officers surrendered their flats after the scam came to light.
Congress leader Ashok Chavan had to resign as Maharashtra chief minister after allegations of his involvement in the scam.
Narayan Rane, then a Cabinet minister, had granted initial permission to the society on September 21, 1999. The then chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh signed the file the next year and the then revenue minister Ashok Chavan approved the Letter of Intent and put Adarsh on priority in June, 2000.
In 2003, Vilasrao Deshmukh approved additional land allotment while the final approval and environment clearances came under the chief ministership of Sushil Kumar Shinde.
On July 9, 2004 Shivaji Rao Nilangekar, the then revenue minister, had cleared additional land allotment to the society.
