The gunbattle continued for four long hours in Doda district.

Jammu: Two guerrillas of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terror outfit and a woman associate were killed in a gunbattle between the militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.

The gunbattle erupted after the state police and the Indian Army launched a joint search operation following inputs that two militants were hiding in Baggla area in the mountainous Doda district, about 190 km from Jammu.

"The security forces asked the hiding terrorists to surrender. Instead they opened fire," a police spokesman said.

A woman, Zahida Bano, was injured in the cross fire, who succumbed to her injuries in a hospital. The police spokesman said Bano was an associate of the slain militants.

The militants killed in the more than four-hour long gunfight were identified as - Nisar Ahmed Malik alias Shabaz and Rafiq Gujjar alias Kuber, the spokesman added.

Two AK-47 rifles, taken away by a deserter soldier Zaffarullah Parrey on March 8, were recovered from the shootout site, the spokesman said.

"The killing of these terrorists is a great success for the police and security forces, as it has dealt a body blow to the Lashkar-e-Taiba in the area," district police chief Prabhat Singh said.
