UP Riots: BJP demands Mulayam?s dismissal
Following the communal violence in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP is demanding Mulayam Singh?s resignation and army deployment in the area.

New Delhi: Mau in Uttar Pradesh has been put under an indefinite curfew after communal violence broke out in the town on Friday.

At least 3 people have died and 12 others seriously injured in the rioting and the subsequent police firing.

The State Director General of Police Yashpal Singh today rushed to Mau to take stock of the situation.

The riots broke out during the traditional Bharat Milap programme after Dussehra.

The Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) staged a flag march on Saturday in the troubled spots of Mau.

The situation is still very tense and the police have arrested 75 people so far.

Controversial local independent UP MLA Mukhtar Ansari had been asked to leave the district, but he refused to follow the orders of the district administration.

Blaming the BJP for fomenting communal tension in Mau, he demanded that the army be deployed in the trouble-torn town.

The BJP on the other hand called for the immediate dismissal of the Mulayam Singh Government for failing to prevent communal riots in Mau.

BJP's national Vice-President Kalyan Singh stated that members of a particular community were hiding in seminaries and religious places and firing at innocent people.

Singh said that while the RAF and PAC were deployed in Hindu-dominated areas, force deployment in the Muslim areas was insignificant helping them to move about freely.

The BJP claimed that the situation in the town has deteriorated since yesterday and if no step was taken to check the situation immediately, it could affect the peace of the state for which the state government would be solely responsible.

The kshetra and zila panchayat polls in Mau had been suspended in wake of the incident.
