Upset Over Virat Kohli's Dismissal, Retired Railway Employee Attempts Self-Immolation in MP
Babubal Bairva, a retired railway employee, sustained burn injuries on his head, face and hands after he attempted self-immolation over Team India skipper Virat Kohli's dismissal in the first Test against South Africa.

Ratlam: A 65-year-old man attempted self-immolation in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district when his favourite cricketer and Team India skipper Virat Kohli was dismissed for just 5 runs on opening day of the first Test in South Africa.

Babubal Bairva, a retired railway employee, sustained burn injuries on his head, face and hands.

Police said Bairva was watching the Cape Town Test alone in his room on January 5 and was upset when Kohli got out on just 5. Bairva reportedly poured kerosene on himself and attempted to self-immolate. Hearing his cries, his family members and neighbours rushed to his room and doused the flames.

The senior citizen was rushed to the district hospital where his condition was said to be stable.

“The man in his statement accepted that he was too upset with the dismissal of Virat Kohli and set himself ablaze,” Do Batti Police Station Assistant Sub Inspector PS Alawa told News18 over phone.

The medical report did not indicate that Bairva was drunk at the time of the incident, said Alawa. “During the probe, we found no other reason which could have driven Bairva to this extreme step,” said Alawa.

A case was lodged at Do Batti Police Station and further investigation was on.Y
