Islamabad: A suspected US missile strike on Monday killed five in Pakistan's tribal region near the Afghan border, security officials said.
The strike occurred in Mir Ali area of North Waziristan district, a known redoubt of Taliban and Al Qaeda rebels responsible for cross-border raids on NATO-led international forces in Afghanistan.
"As a US drone aircraft fired two missiles into a house in Haider Ali village, two more drones were flying in the area," an intelligence official said on condition of anonymity. "The compound belonged to a local tribesman named Ahmad Ali."
The identity of those killed was not known yet.
The US military has made more than 30 air strikes in North Waziristan during the last two months.
Pakistan condemns the attacks publicly, saying the killing of civilians increases anti-US sentiments, but it is widely believed that government intelligence agencies help to identify the targets.
