THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) carried out raids on all corporations, municipalities and zonal offices across the state on Monday. A health inspector and an additional health inspector of Edappally zonal office in Ernakulam was nabbed with unaccounted money of Rs 4,000. However, a clear picture on the extent of irregularities and unaccounted money will emerge only after the compilation by the teams on a state-wide basis, according to VACB authorities. The VACB detected several irregularities, including applications for building permits pending with many offices for more than a year, during the raid. The teams also found that in many corporations and municipalities the collection of building tax arrears had not taken place for a long time. No action had been taken against those who defaulted in remittances. Many offices were found to have favoured some shop owners by not collecting tax after assessing their actual revenue. “We found lapses with many municipalities and corporations in delivering their duties,” Shankar  Reddy, ADGP, VACB, told Express.
