Vana Prasadam - distribution of saplings that was launched on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi, witnessed a tremendous response from the citizens. The scheme was inaugurated by HMR managing director, NVS Reddy at the Elders’ Mela meet of senior citizens held at Zoroastrian Club, Secunderabad.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said that in the light of a large number of enquiries about the availability of plants and assistance for plantation undertaken by HMR in its Vana Deeksha program in the city, distribution of saplings has also been initiated under Vana Prasadam scheme.
Plants, mostly native varieties, are being distributed to individuals, organisations, and associations free of cost by HMR to increase green cover in Hyderabad.
Senior citizens, students, house wives, and members of resident welfare associations have enthusiastically collected saplings and the demand is more for varieties like deva ganneru, neem, neredu, spethodia, techoma, and pomegranate. Reddy mentioned that saplings can also be collected from the reception counter of HMR at Metro Rail Bhavan near Secretariat on all working days during office hours.
