CHENNAI: As part of the 64th Independence Day celebrations by Vel Tech Dr RR & SR Technical University (ECE dept), students conducted competitive events for the Home for the Handicapped Children, Guild of Service, Anna Nagar West. With the view that the under-privileged need to be motivated to achieve success in their own areas of interests, this programme is conducted every year. Apart from the contests, they also entertain the children with songs, skits, mimes and other events.This time, S Perhu Krishnan, a 2006 alumni of Vel Tech and currently a system analyst in Verizon, Chennai, was the chief guest. Comedy actor Dhamu was the guest of honour, while Vel Tech Director, KVD Kishore Kumar, presided over the function. The students donated ceiling fans, bed sheets, bathing towels and toys. V Gauthugesh proposed a vote of thanks. The programme came to an end with a rendition of the National Anthem.
