Vel Tech team builds F1 car

CHENNAI: A five-member team, comprising Ilamaran, Sahil, Lenin, Karthik and Vijay Simman, from Vel Tech, has designed, developed and fabricated a Formula 1 car for the California FSAE event. The group, which graduated from the automobile department, is the only one that has been shortlisted from India.Their 32 BHP car weighing 225 kgs fitted with a 600 cc engine is capable of generating a pick-up of 105 km in just eight seconds.The unique feature of their creation is that no sub contract was given to an outsider.The team is confident of winning the next FSAE event at California, since they could not demonstrate the operation of their vehicle due to delays in their visas.
