Violence in Morena, curfew clamped
BSP supporters took up positions along the railway tracks at Morena station and threw stones at passing trains.

Morena (Madhya Pradesh): After protests by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers turned violent, the police on Thursday imposed a curfew in Morena in Madhya Pradesh.

The BSP workers were protesting the killing of former state BSP President P P Choudhary and his son Hitendra at Jaora railway crossing on Wednesday night.

Police said curfew was clamped after tear gas shells failed to disperse the rampaging demonstrators. Prohibitory orders have also been passed in the neighbouring town of Jaora.

Although six people have been arrested in connection with the murder, authorities have failed to pacify Chaudhary's supporters.

Several trains running between Delhi and Bhopal were stopped at Agra as the BSP workers were pelting stones at passing trains in Morena.

Punjab Mail, Mangla Express, Swarn Jayanti Express and Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi were stopped at Agra Cantt.

People armed with country-made weapons clashed in Morena and five have been reported injured in a gunfight.

Meanwhile, police suspect the BSP leader was a victim of "revenge killing" as his son had eloped with an upper-caste girl and married her.

Choudhary was earlier jailed in connection with this case and was subsequently removed from the post of state BSP president.
