CHENNAI: After the AIADMK government assumed office, Wakf properties worth Rs.130 crore which were encroached by private parties have been redeemed. The redeemed Wakf properties are located in Coimbatore (48 cents worth Rs.5 crore), Triplicane (35 grounds of land worth Rs.105 crore), Siruvadi in Villupuram (10.85 acres worth Rs.20 crore).This was revealed during a review meet of the Tamil Nadu Wakf Board, chaired by Minister for Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare, Mohammedjan, on Wednesday. The Minister directed the officials to expedite redemption of the encroached properties. “Whether registered in the Wakf Board or not , these remain Wakf properties. Even if they were sold out illegally, they would be redeemed, “ he said and added that registrars have been advised not to register the sale of Wakf property if they don’t have no-objection certificate from the Wakf Board.
