A ‘walkathon’ will be held in Kochi on Wednesday to observe World Palliative Care Day and to raise awareness about the need for palliative care. Organised by Alpha Pain Clinic, the walkathon will be flagged off at 10 am from the helipad near Marine Drive by K Padmakumar, Kochi range IG.
District panchayat president Eldose Kunnappilly will light the torch and hand it over to Alexander Muthoot, managing director of Muthoot Group. The walkathon will conclude at the Fine Arts Hall in Kochi. It will be followed by a seminar on ‘Students for Palliative Care’ which will be inaugurated by Hibi Eden MLA.
The theme for this year is ‘Living to the end, Palliative Care for an Aging Population’.
“The ageing population is increasing at an alarming rate according to the World Health Organisation. This will thereby lead to increase in the number of people requiring palliative care. The World Palliative Care Day aspires to spread awareness about this issue and underlines the need to find effective solutions for the same.
