BANGALORE: It was October last year that Bangalore University’s (BU) flagship cultural extravaganza Samskruthi Chintana was held. It seems as though the monthly cultural programme could be another casualty of the alleged internal politics in the university. It may be noted here that the programme was stopped after Dr B C Mylarappa took over as Registrar in November last year. Sources inside the University told Express that the feud between him and Vice-Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev has resulted in Samskruthi Chintana to be discontinued.“With both VC and Registrar at the loggerheads, neither of them is taking the initiative towards any cultural programme in the University,” sources said. Now, Registrar Mylarappa has decided to take it up with the Vice-Chancellor’s office for the resumption of the monthly programme. “I have no idea why the programme was called off, especially after I took over as Registrar. Such programmes are important for a university and I will take it up with the officials concerned and the VC’s office to resume the programme,” he told Express. The Samskruthi Chintana that Mylarappa was a part of was held in September last year, when MLC P V Krishna Bhat was felicitated. Strangely, he was not the Registrar at that point of time. While Prabhu Dev refused to comment on why the cultural programme was stopped, sources close to him say that the appointment of Mylarappa was the biggest deterrent for the former to lose interest in the programme. If all goes well, according to sources the next Samskruthi Chintana will see noted poet and litterateur G S Shivarudrappa being honoured.
