Thousands of people braved the winter chill as they gathered on both sides of the majestic Rajpath, the country's ceremonial boulevard facing Raisina Hills, to cheer the marching contingents on the 65th Republic Day on Sunday.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 9.9 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, but overcast conditions, moderate fog and a chilly wind ensured a cold morning in the national capital. This, however, did not deter enthusiasts, including women and children, who thronged the side lawns of Rajpath to witness the stunning show of India's military might and cultural diversity.
People had come from far away places and even from other states for the event. A number of foreign tourists were also seen among the spectators. According to the MeT department, weather is expected to remain cloudy throughout the day while the maximum temperature is expected to settle at 20 degree Celsius.
The maximum temperature on Saturday had tumbled seven notches below normal to settle down at 14.4 degree Celsius, bringing Delhiites a cold day. The minimum temperature had settled at 9.4 degree Celsius, two notches above normal.
