CHENNAI: A Madanraj, a young exponent of the martial art, Silambam, hailing from Udumalpet, Tirupur, has brought laurels to Tamil Nadu by winning a gold, a silver and two bronze medals in the second World Silambam Championships held in Malaysia from Dec 17 to 22. His participation in the event was made possible by monetary aid extended to him by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. On Tuesday, Madanraj met the CM at the Secretariat. As per a release, S Angamuthu, AIADMK functionary of Udumalpet Ward 19 had written to the CM, seeking sponsorship for his son Madanraj to take part in the event pointing out the poor financial position of the family. Considering his request, the AIADMK leader ordered the party to release an assistance of `50,000 to meet Madanraj’s expenses .Both father and son thanked Jayalalithaa for her assistance, which helped him bring laurels to the country, especially to TN.
