Political analyst and 'Vaartha' bureau chief R Rajagopalan joined IBNLive readers for an interaction on the UPA govt's DMK crisis.

Q. Hi Rajagopalan sir, Why DMK did not withdraw support in 2009 during last operation carried out by the Lankan army and Karunanidhi addressed the assembly stating that separate country for Tamils as unrealistic. Do you think is this make believe crisis of DMK and Congress. We saw same kind of position of DMK during 2009 elections. Asked by: Jagannath Pujar

A. DMK was in power in Tamil Nadu, wanting to continue to enjoy the rule. Hence it was not politically calculative to have withdrawn its support. DMK snapped its ties with Congress and that is end of road of UPA-2.

Q. Sir, don't you think that the act of withdrawing support by DMK is a mere drama and arm-twisting technique by DMK which they have done on a number of occasions in the past? Asked by: Shyam Vadalker

A. This time it is real. DMK cannot be enacting such drama always And now it is final that DMK walked out of UPA, this buzz was known to each and every Tamil Nadu observers that DMK will teach Congress a lesson.

Q. DMK has most of the Tamil support so they have taken up an emotional issu of Tamils? Asked by: Prathap

A. No not at all. It is not like that DMK has not done any drama. It is a sensitive issue. It is a political cause. I do not think DMK will repeat such of its old tactics.

Q. Is it yet another drama created by DMK to storm back in power? Asked by: Subramanian

A. It is not a drama-Tamil killings in north eastern province of Sri Lanka was too severe and it is a genocide. Any political party in Tamil Nadu - will have to toe the line of Vaiko and Karunanidhi.

Q. Is it good for the Cong that DMK is left them. Will it help them say that they are now alienated from the 2G scam and may be look at the ruling party in TN and other allies for Support? What do you think? Asked by: Narayan

A. Congress in Tamil Nadu is in a a pathetic condition in Tamil Nadu. Does not have organisation. Whereas lots of in fights. It will be too bad for Congress as DMK snapped its ties. Without DMK, Congress will be reduced to one or two seats in Lok Sabha from present ten MPs. They won 10 with DMK support.

Q. Regional parties are a threat to India's federal structure. They never bothered about the national interest. If india act against Srilanka the same may recoil on India on Kashmir, Nagaland etc. Asked by: Prathap

A. You are absolutely correct. Regional parties have been now in focus. And they indulge in foreign policy. I blame it on UPA-2 as its leadership does not have a clear cut authority. Prime Minister should have been much more authoritative.

Q. Will UPA survive or is it a shrewd move by DMK to overcome the anti-incumbency against Cong in 2014? Asked by: Sandeep

A. UPA cannot survive. UPA betrayed its allies. Mamta Banerjee and other allies. And it is right appropriate time for DMK to have walked out of the UPA. You cannot just undermine-political authority.

Q. After so many hiccups, why the Govt preferred to continue. Is not it time to go for people's mandate? Asked by: Sarin

A. Yes that is what DMK is now pressurising Congress. DMK too wants an early election. With the DMK pressure I foresee September October 2013 election for Lok Sabha.

Q. Is this a late reaction of 2009 or an early signals of 2014? Asked by: Ramani TE

A. Absolutely correct. DMK now realise the damage it would suffer if it went with the Congress in Tamil Nadu.

Q. Do you think there will be Vote of Confidence any time soon? Asked by: Kapil

A. As a union minister smsed me- that Congress is in ICU and Government is in Coma- I do not think that Vote of Confidence. It is just a posturing by UPA-2.

Q. Hi Sir, UPA-2 government will survive? India may vote against Sri Lanka at UNHRC meet in Geneva? Please share you thoughts. Asked by: Siva kumar

A. UPA will survive. A lame duck. As a newsman I go round atleast three to four Bhavans- Krishi Bhavan, Udyog Bhavan, Sashtri Bhavan. You can easily see that the Govt departments have come to a compelte stand still. Nothing is moving in the system. Therefore I see that Govt will pretend as it they are on the move with Geneva Convention to support Tamils. In actual terms UPA will not. Congres will deceive DMK and show garden path.

Q. Do you think DMK is working in close co-ordination with SP? Asked by: Gautam

A. Did you not see the response of Ramgopal Yadav that DMK is blackmailing. SP does not know what was happening in Sri Lanka. I know for facts, DMK failed to brief SP. And it is not correct to say that DMK is working in close coordination with SP.

What's your reaction?
