TIRUPATI: In a shocking incident a deputy superintendent of police, CID, N Hemalatha committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Durgasamudram near here on Monday.She resorted to the extreme step allegedly due to harassment from her higher-ups and also because of political pressures. It is learnt that she was investigating a case against a police official in Banaganapalle of Kurnool district, where she was posted as DSP of the CID.It is learnt that a political leader, who is close to the police official involved in the case, has been pressurising her to dilute the case.Unable to bear the harassment Hemalatha took two weeks leave and came to Durgasamudram where her family resides.On Monday when her two sons went to college and her lawyer-husband Madhumurthy to the court, she reportedly committed suicide.Her younger son who came home at around 2:30 p.m. noticed this and immediately alerted his father who in turn alerted the police. Tirupati in-charge SP K Jagga Rao said ``We are investigating the case in every angle.’’A 1989 batch police officer, Hemalatha, is the daughter of N Venkatasubbanna, former MLA of Kodur in Kadapa district and grand daughter of N Penchallaih, also an MLA of Kodur. She worked at Alipiri and Tirupati women’s police stations and at Police Training Centre in Kalyani Dam and later worked with the TTD vigilance and security department. She was promoted a few months ago and posted as DSP to Kurnool.
