CHENNAI: People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL)-Chennai and Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Madras will conduct a workshop titled ‘Defending Rights, Expanding Freedoms! Why Citizens Should Know Constitutional and Criminal Law’ on December 3. The one-day workshop aims at introducing citizens to laws. One will be exposed to the essential principles and provisions of laws so that they can use it as a sword to safeguard their rights. The workshop intends to equip citizens with enough knowledge about the working of such laws to deal with ordinary day-to-day situations, as also with special incidents. Using experiential learning methods, the workshop will focus on actual experiences to help participants gain a more nuanced understanding of the law. Thus is because of the fact that knowledge of laws are required not only when facing criminal action but also when demanding new rights and freedom. Our actions to reclaim democracy will gain greater depth and quality when we understand the essence of constitutional and criminal laws.The workshop will take place at Hall No. 356, II floor, Humanities and Social Sciences Block, IIT Madras, from 9.30am to 5pm.
