Workshop on rights of older persons

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Centre for Gerontological Studies here will organise an international workshop on ‘Human rights of older persons in Asia-Pacific region’ on June 4. Addressing a news conference here on Friday, Centre chairman P K B Nayar and John Kattakayam said that Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Mukul Wasnik will open the workshop at Hotel Mascot at 10 am that day. UN special rapporteur on the Right to Health Anand Grover will deliver a special lecture. Minister for Social Welfare M K Muneer will deliver the valedictory address.  The organisers said representatives from the Global Alliance for the Rights of Older People, a joint body of nine world organisations advocating the rights of the old, the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and a couple of other global bodies will attend the workshop.
