HYDERABAD: In his first exercise of giving form to his party, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has constituted an ad hoc committee but its composition has received flak from several sections that weaker sections and women have not got due representation. But YSR Congress Party leaders dismiss the criticism as baseless, saying that the committee’s purpose is to concentrate on membership enrollment. “We have roped in those who will be able do the work better. We have not taken into consideration caste, religion or other factors since these are not important for the job at hand,” party leader Bhuma Nagireddy, who played a key role in the formation of the committee, told Express.Other leaders who played an important role in the constitution of the committee were YV Subba Reddy, B Karunakar Reddy and Jupudi Prabhakar. The criticism is that all important posts went to forward communities. Besides Jagan Mohan Reddy as party president, other posts including state coordinator for membership and elections, youth wing and studeaeddy’s detractors is that there is only one member from the minority community, Habeeb Abdul Rehman, in the governing council though the Kadapa MP has repeatedly talked about 10 per cent reservation in jobs and education for them. There is another Muslim, Jaleel Khan, convener of the Vijayawada city unit, on the 85-member committee.Though Congress leaders sympathised with Ambati Rambabu and Gone Prakasa Rao for not getting recognition in the YSR Congress, Jagan loyalists maintain that the Congress leaders were not able to see the big picture. “Ambati Rambabu will continue to play a vital role in the party. Do you mean to say that Rambabu had not been consulted before the committee was constituted?” Nagireddy asked.Others who could not get noticed by Jagan Mohan Reddy are Lakshmi Parvati, Mudragada Padmanabham, Thota Gopalakrishna, Ch Ranganatha Raju, Tadi Shakuntala and Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy. The Ding Dong anchor on Sakshi TV and well-known actor, Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam, has also not found a place on the committee. Another film actor, Vijay Chander, has also been kept out. A party leader said on the condition of anonymity that it was only an ad hoc committee and that it was not proper for one to draw inferences that injustice had been done to weaker sections. “Our main objective is membership drive,” he explained, echoing Bhuma Nagireddy’s opinion. After identifying field workers, a full-fledged state committee will be formed after the party’s plenary in July. While constituting those, fair representation will be given to all sections of society,” he said.
