Senior YSRCP leader Mudragada Padmanabham, who had earlier challenged that he would change his name if actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan wins in Pithapuram. Now that the results are out and Pawan Kalyan won in Pithapuram, social media was abuzz with trolls questioning when Mudragada would change his name.
Now, responding to the trolling on social media, Mudragada Padmanabham has announced that he will change his name to Padmanabha Reddy. So he applied to the government for a name change. Recently, a gazette notification was issued confirming the change of his name from Mudragada Padmanabham to Mudragada Padmanabha Reddy.
Earlier on April 30, he promised to change his name from Padmanabham to Padmanabha Reddy if he failed to defeat Pawan Kalyan in Pithapuram. He lost the challenge, as Pawan Kalyan defeated YSRCP candidate Vanga Geetha in Pithapuram by 70,279 votes.
“Nobody forced me to change my name. I have changed it on my own volition,” Reddy said. He added, “The youth who love you (Kalyan) are incessantly dropping expletive messages. In my view, this is not right. Rather than abusing, do one thing…eliminate us (all family members).”
Mudragada Padmanabha Reddy was born into a Telugu Kapu family in Kirlampudi Village, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh. His father’s name was Veera Raghava Rao. Padmanabham finished his schooling in his village. His father was elected as an independent MLA in Prattipadu twice: in 1962 and 1967. He was known as Kirlampudi Munciff.
He started his political journey as a Janata Party MLA in 1978. Later, when NT Rama Rao founded the Telugu Desam Party in 1982, he joined the party and won the 1983 and 1985 elections from the Prattipadu Assembly constituency in East Godavari District.
On March 15, 2024, he joined the YSR Congress Party in the presence of the party president and then chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at the Tadepalli camp office.
