Dant Manjan Vs Toothpaste: What's Better For Your Teeth
According to the Indian Dental Association, only 28% people in our country brush twice a day.

Dental health is a major global concern, with millions suffering from tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health issues. Poor dental health hygiene can lead to significant health problems including chronic pain, tooth loss, and even systemic conditions like heart disease. Common factors contributing to dental issues include inadequate oral care, high sugar consumption, and limited access to dental services. We often use several powders or paste in order to brush our teeth. In many cultures, traditional methods for maintaining oral health exist along with modern practices. One such method is the use of dant manjan, a traditional natural toothbrush made from twigs of trees like neem or miswak. It has been used for centuries by many people because of its natural antibacterial properties.

Ayurveda Acharya Dr SP Katiyar of Sanjeevani Ayurveda in Gurugram says that though datun helps to prevent bacteria from attacking, but choosing the right toothpaste is very beneficial for teeth cleansing. Toothpaste also helps to prevent teeth infections like sensitivity and pyorrhoea. According to the Indian Dental Association, only 28% people in our country brush twice a day, whereas 85% are victims of dental cavities and 51 % use toothpaste. He added that brushing twice a day is necessary for maintaining proper dental hygiene.

Dr SP Katiyar also claims that every toothpaste has a colour code which shows whether the toothpaste is made from natural ingredients or chemicals. This colour code is printed on the very end of every toothpaste tube. Blue colour means that some ingredients in the toothpaste are natural and some are medicine based. Green colour means natural ingredients, red code means natural and chemical ingredients. Toothpaste with black colour code should be avoided because it is completely made from chemicals.

Dr SP Katiyar also says that oral hygiene is very important during pregnancy because the hormones in a woman’s body keep changing, due to which she may suffer from pregnancy induced gingivitis, where the gums get swollen and start bleeding. The treatment of gingivitis is also very difficult. If a pregnant woman gets an infection called Periodontal, the risk of her premature delivery increases.

Dentists believe that people should not fall prey to social media videos which claim to make teeth shine because once the enamel gets damaged, one may have to suffer from many oral issues. Therefore, it is necessary to visit the dentist if anyone is facing any issues related to the teeth.
