Why Students Struggle With Academics: Key Factors Parents Should Address
In many countries, scolding the children is a norm, and many elders shamelessly boast of doing that with their wards.

Most parents complain that their children are not serious about their academics. Despite treating them with the best facilities and subjecting them to severe punishments, they are not focussed on the studies part. There can be an array of reasons that students show a lack of interest in their studies. Parents should carefully understand these reasons, try to solve them, and then help them to complete their studies. This space articulates the reasons why the students want to skip studies.

1. Fear of being scolded

In many countries, scolding the children is a norm, and many elders shamelessly boast of doing that with their wards. However, what they don’t understand is the long-term effects of scolding, ie- anxiety, depression, etc. These effects remain deeply embedded in the young impressionable minds and deprive them of any creative growth.

2. Unpreecedented Expectations

To make the children succeed in the brutal competition of staying ahead in academics and other fields, many times parents set unrealistic expectations for them. In a bid to live up to those expectations, students try their level best but many times fail to succeed. They fail to deal with the guilt and shame which prompts them to take drastic measures, ie- dying by suicide.

3. Don’t shatter the ward’s confidence

Never use negative terms like worthless or lazy for the children. Such words hurt his self-esteem and shatter his confidence. When such words are used continuously, the child starts believing in those words, feels underconfident and stops concentrating on academics.

4. Lack of interest

If the student is not interested in any subject, he or she will not focus well on the studies. If they have less knowledge about a subject, they will not be inclined to study more about it. It is the responsibility of the parents to understand the interests areas of the child and involve him in the studies accordingly.

5. Not an effective study space at home

Ineffective study space will not allow the child to concentrate on his or her studies. The parents must create an orderly and peaceful environment for the students while studying and help them in their studies.
