Abhishek Banerjee Recalls Being Compared To Deewar’s Amitabh Bachchan In College
Calling himself the 'OG' fan of Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Banerjee shared that his body language prompted his teachers to compare him with the veteran actor.

Abhishek Banerjee is all enthusiastic as he is set to share screen space with the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. A die-hard fan of the veteran star, Abhishek will be soon seen alongside him in the upcoming film, Section 84. Ahead of its release, Abhishek sat down for an interview with Sucharita Tyagi on her YouTube channel. During the conversation, he recalled being teased as “Deewar ka Amitabh” during his college days.

Calling himself the ‘OG’ fan of Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Banerjee shared that his body language prompted his teachers to compare him with the veteran actor. The actor said, “Meri chaal wesi thi. Mujhe teachers bolte the ki ‘bhai tu kya hai Deewar ka Amitabh bane ghum raha hai’ (My body language was like that. My teachers used to call me Deewar’s Amitabh).”

In a previous interview with PTI, Abhishek Banerjee also shared his experience when Amitabh Bachchan walked to the sets of Section 84 for the first time. Revealing that he recorded his entry to capture the moment, he also added that it reminded him of all the films of the megastar that he has grown up watching. He said, “That walk took me to that nostalgic era of him in all those films… dialogues and action scenes flashed in front of my eyes. He is an institution. Everybody wants to work with him.”

Such was Abhishek Banerjee’s love for Amitabh Bachchan that he did not even take a minute to sign Ribhu Dasgupta’s Section 84. Recounting the call when was offered the film, the actor added in the same interview, “They called me and said, ‘There is this film with Mr Bachchan and I said, ‘Yes’. I didn’t hear the next two lines. They were like, ‘Arre, first hear what kind of film….I was like, ‘No need’. Ribhu Dasgupta has imagined me in a character which is almost like being Bachchan in front of Mr Bachchan. It was a huge deal for me.”

Abhishek Banerjee has been riding high on the success of Stree 2, co-starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles. The film, running successfully in theatres, has crossed the Rs 500 crore mark and is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Apart from Stree 2, Abhishek was also a part of Vedaa which was released on the same day as that of the horror comedy sequel. It was headlined by Sharvari Wagh and John Abraham.
