When Bigg Boss 18 kickstarted earlier this month, the show grabbed eyeballs because of its contestants and because it got a donkey to live with the contestants in the house. The donkey, Max, belonged to advocate Gunaratna Sadavarte, a contestant on the show. The animal made headlines as several animal welfare organizations demanded that it be released. Amidst the uproar, the makers finally decided to release the donkey.
A few days ago, PFA (People For Animals) also objected to the makers for having a donkey on the show. While the makers decided to keep Max in the house as a social experiment, it is still unclear why they decided to get an animal. After its release, PFA issued a statement. They thanked Maneka Sanjay Gandhi and said, “OFFICIAL UPDATE: DONKEY RELEASED BY BIGG BOSS TEAM. We are pleased to inform you that the Bigg Boss team has updated us with the news that they have released the donkey. This success is a direct result of the collective efforts of everyone who supported and joined this cause. Thank you for standing with us and for showing that compassion and action can make a real difference.”

Additionally, PETA took to its social media and called out the makers of Bigg Boss 18 for keeping Max in captivity on the show. They mentioned how using the animal for entertainment like a ‘prop’ was inappropriate. They demanded its release and said that Max should live in a sanctuary with other rescued donkeys. The animal welfare organization also wrote a letter to the host of the show, Salman Khan.
Reportedly, Max is a pet of Sadavarte. The lawyer brought the donkey on the show along with him. Max also became the first contestant to be evicted from the house this weekend.
