After last year’s Covid-delayed and rather lackluster all-celebrity season, Bigg Boss is back with a fresh set of players and a brand new format called Bigg Boss OTT. The digital reality show, hosted by Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar, will stream for six weeks and the top performers will get a chance to be on Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 15.
The makers have roped in 13 contestants who will show off their “over the top” avatars to win the trophy and secure a place in Bigg Boss 15. The confirmed contestants of the show are Neha Bhasin, Raqesh Bapat, Shamita Shetty, Zeeshan Khan, Ridhima Pandit, Karan Nath, Urfi Javed, Divya Agarwal, Akshara Singh, Pratik Sehejpal, Nishant Bhatt, Muskaan Jattana, and Milind Gaba.
At the grand premiere, Karan revealed that Bigg Boss OTT will have a “stay connected” theme where the contestants will play the game in pairs of two. Female contestants got an opportunity to choose their respective male partners with whom they would be staying connected till the end of the show. While Shamita Shetty chose Raqesh Bapat, Neha Bhasin and Milind Gaba made a connection. Urfi Javed partnered with Zeeshan Khan. On the other hand, Moose Jattana and Nishant Bhat became a pair. Bhojpuri sensation Akshara Singh made a connection with Pratik Sehajpal. Ridhima Pandit, who was the last contestant to enter the stage, impressed Karan Nath and the duo became a pair.
Bollywood diva Malaika Arora delivered a scintillating performance on the ‘Param Sundari’ song from Kriti Sanon-starrer Mimi. She also joined Karan Johar on stage briefly, alongside helping the female contestants choose a male partner. She had various tasks for the boys. While she asked Zeeshan Khan and Milind Gaba to perform some yoga asanas. Pratik Sehejpal and Raqesh Bapat were asked to impress the actress. Karan Nath and Nishant Bhatt entertained Malaika with a pole dance.
Meanwhile, Shamita Shetty’s entry came as a surprise as she was a part of Bigg Boss Season 3. She had opted out of the show to attend her sister Shilpa Shetty’s wedding at the time. Her entry comes weeks after her brother-in-law Raj Kundra, actor Shilpa Shetty’s husband, was arrested for allegedly creating and distributing pornographic videos via mobile apps. Shamita told host Karan Johar that she was in two minds about taking part in Bigg Boss OTT as “a lot happened recently” in her life.
While interacting with Karan Johar on stage, Shamita said, “I am so thankful that I am back on Bigg Boss, after 10 years. I have changed a lot since then. Honestly, the offer came long back, and I had already said yes. However, a lot happened recently and I thought I will let go of the opportunity. But I had already committed to the show and once I make a commitment, nothing can stop me from honouring it.”
Divya Agarwal became the last contestant to enter the Bigg Boss OTT house after she could not forge a connection. As a result, she got nominated for eviction which will take place next week.
With this edition promising a mixture of social media influencers and popular celebrity faces, it will certainly provide some of the explosive moments that fans of the show have become used to over recent years. Bigg Boss OTT will air Monday to Friday at 7 pm, and at 8 pm on weekends on Voot. The audience will get 24X7 access through live streaming.
Speaking about the show, Karan Johar earlier said in a statement, “Being a fan of the show, I’m excited about the new elements we’ve introduced to Bigg Boss OTT. I’m eagerly waiting to see the viewers’ participation in the show that takes over the top to an altogether new higher level. Not to forget, I’m also eagerly looking forward to seeing what kinds of punishment the audiences will give to the contestants.”
