Thangalaan, directed by Pa Ranjith, was released in theatres on August 15, but it is yet to be released on OTT. Fans have expressed their concerns on social media, who are eagerly waiting for the film’s OTT release. Earlier, it was scheduled to be released on OTT platform Netflix on September 20, but due to some reasons, the much-awaited OTT release was delayed. Several fans mentioned on social media that there might be numerous reasons why the OTT release has been delayed. A rumour was widely shared on social media platforms, which states that there are certain scenes in the film that may not align with guidelines of the OTT platforms. According to some media reports, there are some scenes in Thangalaan such as those involving the consumption of beef and the slaughtering of buffalo, which could offend some communities. As a precautionary measure, OTT platforms may be considering editing or removing the scenes to avoid any issues in future. The makers are yet to announce the exact reason for the delay.
As per a report, several rumours have come up which state that Netflix has taken the decision to cancel its Rs 35 crore deal as they are not sure about the film’s digital future. None of the parties has commented anything about this development.
The storyline of the film was praised by the fans and critics. Talking about the box-office collection, made with a budget of Rs 135 crore, Thangalaan managed to record a worldwide box-office collection of just Rs 68.5 crore. It features popular actors like Chiyaan Vikram, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, Daniel Caltagirone, Hari Krishnan, Preeti Karan, Vettai Muthukumar, Arjun Anbudan and Krish Hassan.
Thangalaan was produced by Dhananjayan G and KE Gnanavel Raja under the banner of Studio Green and Neelam Productions. The music was composed by GV Prakash Kumar, while the cinematography department was handled by Kishor Kumar.
