Bollywood actress Twinkle Khanna recalled how Twinkle Khanna tackled Dimple and Rajesh Khanna’s separation. Dimple married Rajesh in March 1973, when she was just 16. The couple had met only a month before their wedding and decided to tie the knot. They welcomed two daughters, Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna. However, Dimple and Rajesh separated in 1982.
At an event in 2018, Dimple revisited the separation and said that Twinkle was very mature about the split. In the video, shared by Brut India on Instagram, Dimple was asked who is more like a mother in the family and she named Twinkle. While she was speaking about Twinkle’s ‘motherly qualities’, Dimple opened up about how the actress-turned-author dealt with her parents’ separation.
“She was an amazing child. She must have been all of, I think, seven or eight when I got separated. And the kind of maturity (she showed). She was only wanting to take care of me, to see if I am okay, if everything is alright with me and… There’s a lot of things I can’t say but she was a like my friend. She was like a friend to me, then she turned into a monster mother so that’s how she is today,” Dimple said.
Although separated, Dimple refused to give Rajesh a divorce. An old video of the late actor did the rounds of the internet earlier this year in which Rajesh spoke about his failed marriage. In the video, a reporter asked Rajesh Khanna about his complicated marriage with Dimple and if he would get back with his ex-wife, to which, the actor said, “Doobara matlab? Pehle kahan alag the? Yeh hai ki alag-alag rehte hai kyunki abhi tak divorce nahi diya hai na usne, wo deti hee nahi hai. Yeh to woh jane kis liye nahi deti hai, pata nahi kis liye. Jab woh ayegi yahan Vancouver mein tab unse ye poochiyega. Woh apko sahi jawab degi. Main to itna hi keh sakta hoon ki nahi diya hai divorce, toh nahi diya. Unki marzi hai. Aur ab kya hai, baat toh dilon ki hai.”
