Greta Gerwig To Make Film On Ryan Gosling's Ken After Barbie's Success? Here's What She Said
In a recent interview, Greta Gerwig noted that the team has not ruled out the possibility of an independent movie of Ryan Gosling’s character Ken.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie was a massive success. There has been speculation of a sequel for the film, but the filmmaker might just have hinted at a Barbie spin off. Much to the delight of Barbie fans, in a recent interview, Greta Gerwig noted that the team has not ruled out the possibility of an independent movie of Ryan Gosling’s character Ken. Although the team has not made a concrete plan, she noted that while making Barbie, they gathered much material on Ken as well.

Greta Gerwig recently opened up about the possibility of a Ken movie during an interview with 60 Minutes. During the interview, Greta Gerwig mentioned that she and her co-writer Noah Baumbach had a lot of ideas for the character of Ken that they couldn’t fit into the final draft. In a previous draft of the script, they explored the “Ken effect” in the real world and wrote a scenario for the film, which could not make it to the final draft.

“We had way too much material for Ken. We would write, and write, and write,” Greta stated. She further added that Noah Baumbach had asked her not to “give it away.” When the host questioned her if that prompts a possibility of a Ken movie, the writer-director hinted, “I mean, the truth is, you know — I guess we’ll see.”

Moreover, the filmmaker stated that when writing the Barbie script, they always had Ryan Gosling in mind to play Ken, even placing his entire name next to Ken’s lines in the initial copy.

Greta Gerwig has won the 2024 Pioneer of the Year award. The Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation (WRMPPF) will present the award to Greta Gerwig  during a ceremony at the Beverly Hilton on September 25.
