Nelly and Ashanti, who quietly exchanged vows on December 27, 2023, are overjoyed about welcoming their first baby together. Recently, Nelly organised a surprise baby shower for his lady love, held at the Dolce & Gabbana children’s boutique in New York City. The special gathering was attended by close friends and family, including rapper Fat Joe and his wife Lorena Cartagena. The exciting announcement came after they publicly confirmed the pregnancy back in April. The couple, known for keeping their personal lives private, looked delighted at the baby shower as they are about to start a new chapter in the coming months.

At the event, Nelly opted for a simple all black attire with stylish sunglasses and shoes, while the Foolish singer proudly flaunted her growing baby bump in a vibrant yellow dress from Dolce & Gabbana. Fat Joe shared the special picture on Instagram, as he was seen posing alongside Nelly, Ashanti and his wife in front of vibrant yellow and white balloon decorations. The rapper didn’t just give his followers a peek into the celebration, he also wrote a sweet message for the couple. The rapper noted, “Today we had a Baby Shower, I love you my sister. I’m so happy for yall guys GOD IS GREAT.”

A video making rounds online shows Nelly and Ashanti arriving at the baby shower venue with their team. As the elevator doors open, Ashanti gets the biggest surprise from their friends and family, who cheer and shout, “Surprise.” The moment leaves Ashanti shocked and she is seen laughing with excitement.

In an earlier interview with ET, Ashanti spoke about the moment she broke pregnancy news to Nelly. She said, “He was so happy and we were both smiling and it was so funny. I was actually at his mom’s house… He was in the studio. It was a really cool moment. It was a little bit of everything.”

The baby will be Ashanti’s first and Nelly’s third child, as the rapper already has two children, Chanelle and Cornell Haynes, from a previous relationship. On the other hand, he also adopted his late sister Jackie Donahue’s children, Shawn and Sydney Thomas, after she passed away from leukemia in 2005.

Ashanti and Nelly, who shared on and off relationship since 2003, took a break in 2013 but rekindled their romance in 2023. By December, they decided to marry after Ashanti knew she was pregnant.
