Jay Sean Wants To Collaborate With Ranveer Singh, Calls Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge His Favourite Film

Jay Sean has made a huge impact with his skill in Western music and opened doors for other South Asian musicians. Following the release of his new track Piche Piche, Jay is eager to make his mark in Indian cinema. In a recent conversation with a media house, he expressed his enthusiasm for possibly contributing his voice to Bollywood star Ranveer Singh’s projects. The artist also spoke about the influence of Indian music from his childhood on his career. Interestingly, he revealed that his favourite musical film is the iconic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.

Explaining his interest in collaborating with the Bajirao Mastani star, Jay told Pinkvilla, “Since he likes to rap and that’s where I began my musical journey. I’d picture a fun up-tempo song that he could bring a lot of energy to on screen.”

Talking about the kind of Indian music he grew up listening to and how it shaped his music, Jay Sean shared, “Growing up in a Punjabi household, there were many musical influences in my childhood. Obviously, there was a lot of Bhangra music at weddings and such, as well as 90s Bollywood movies at home, which is probably one of my favorite genres of Indian music. The melodies and emotion of those 90s Bollywood songs have definitely influenced my songwriting. Films like Saajan and Aashiqui, as well as the classics like DDLJ were some of my favourites.”

Meanwhile, despite the popularity of Indian songs in Western countries, Jay finds it surprising there are still very few South Asian artists in mainstream music. He shared that while K-pop, Afrobeats and Latin music artists often appear on Billboard Hot 100, he’s noticed that very few artists from his home region have made it big on a global scale. Due to this, Jay decided to create a platform to highlight South Asian talent and help them gain international recognition.

Jay Sean’s recent tracks like Heartless and Piche Piche featured some prominent artist collaborations. He hinted that he’s currently working with a few more high-profile artists but refused to disclose their names. Delighting his fans, Jay announced that his next album is expected to be released within the next month.
