Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga's Joker 2 Gets R Rating For 'Violence And Nudity'
While the 2019 Joker was known for its violent content, Joker: Folie a Deux is expected to focus more on extreme language and sexuality.

A fresh poster for Joker: Folie a Deux has just been released, featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in a romantic dance scene from the upcoming film. Alongside the poster, Warner Bros. also announced the launch date of the first official trailer, which is scheduled to release on April 9. Ahead of the trailer debut, the sequel recently received its rating from the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and earned an R rating. According to reports, Folie a Deux will contain “strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality and brief full nudity.” While the 2019 Joker was known for its violent content, the sequel is expected to focus more on extreme language and sexuality.

The sequel will explore the complex relationship between Phoenix’ Arthur Fleck, aka Joker, and Gaga’s Harleen Quinzel, famously known as Harley Quinn. The movie will feature a lot of drama within the walls of Arkham Asylum. While the Star is Born actress stepped into the role of Quinn for the sequel movie, Margot Robbie is likely to continue playing the character in the DC Universe.

In the newly released poster for Joker: Folie a Deux, Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn looked charming in the ballroom pose. While Joker looked dashing in a black tuxedo, Quinn looked elegant in a gorgeous white dress. Both characters maintain their signature clown makeup, leaving audiences excited. Sharing the post, the official Instagram handle of the movie wrote, “The world is a stage. Trailer April 9.”

Since the announcement of Lady Gaga stepping into the role of Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie a Deux surfaced online, it sparked excitement among DC fans worldwide. Many believe that Gaga’s unique talents make her the perfect fit for the iconic character. Alongside the audience, Margot Robbie, who previously played Harley Quinn, also expressed her support for Gaga’s casting.

In an interview with MTV, she shared, “It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning, it’s all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way, like, Macbeth or Batman, always gets passed, you know, from great actor to great actor. It’s such an honour to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing and I think she’ll do something incredible with it.”

Other than Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, Joker: Folie a Deux will also feature Zazie Beetz, Brendon Gleeson, Catherine Keener and Jacob Lofland. Directed by Todd Phillips, the movie is scheduled to release on October 4.
