Kannada Filmmaker Sadananda Suvarna, 92, Dies Due To Age-related Illness

Veteran Kannada filmmaker Sadananda Suvarna passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at the age of 92 due to age-related illness, according to media reports. He has been an active face in the theatre industry as well. He wrote scripts for various well-known dramas that are still remembered by audiences till date. Sadananda Suvarna is also known for training young aspiring artists for around 60 years. He gained immense popularity for his 1991 Doordarshan television series Guddada Bhoota. Sadananda Suvarna reportedly produced and directed the famous series, which was loved by his fans. The serial starred actor Prakash Raj in a leading role. The veteran artist produced the popular Kannada film Ghatashraddha in 1977. The film was directed by Girish Kasaravalli. Following this, he directed Kubi Matthu Iyala based on a short story by KP Poornachandra Tejaswi in the year 1992. He also directed well-known films like Tulunadu and Narayana Guru. The film received a huge appreciation from the audiences and the critics.

Sadananda Suvarna was a great writer. He has penned some famous dramas that often attracted huge crowds in the theatres. Some of his famous dramas include Kurudana Sangeetha, Abhagini, Vishamagalige, Kaddavane Kalla, Kannu Thereyithu, Bhagna Mandira, Halladinda Haadige, Roopa Darshana, Rajapootha Pavada and Aakasmika, as reported by the Times of India. Some of his popular directorial works include Urulu, Chakravyooha, Annana Maduve, Bale Bangar, Kulagaurava, Yaru Nannavaru and Kalankdi Neer.

The veteran artist is known for training young talents. He owned several institutions where he trained individuals. Through his training, he has produced some fine artists in the Indian film Industry. He founded institutions like Udaya Kalaniketana, Drishti Film Society, Rangasthala Ranga Tarabeti Kendra and Sadananda Suvarna Samskritika Prathishtana.

Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, expressed his condolences for the sad demise of the veteran artist. He said, “Sadananda Suvarna who has received so many state and national awards has gifted several talented actors to the film industry. I share the grief of his fans and family.”
