Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, who were together for 15 years, announced their divorce in 2021. Despite their separation, both Aamir and Kiran share an amicable bond, and that was evident when Kiran turned up for Ira Khan’s wedding festivities. However, Kiran finds it ‘annoying’ when people only recognise her because of her association with Aamir.
Kiran told SoSouth, “I do have to say at airports or any public place when people come to me and say, ‘You are…’ and they expect me to complete it and say, ‘I am Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan’s wife.’ I mean ex-wife. That bothers me because people kind of recognise me sometimes and they’re not sure but they know me through Aamir. That’s very annoying.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Kiran is gearing up for the release of her directorial venture, Laapataa Ladies. Kiran Rao mentioned earlier that working with Aamir at Aamir Khan Productions for Laapataa Ladies has always been easy. “He is very welcoming of opinions, he looks at me as a creative partner. It’s very heartening, because though everybody sees me as a wife or an ex-wife, if I didn’t have a very strong sense of self I would have been depressed by being reduced to just a wife. But, I have quite a laugh about it, honestly.”
Recently, during News18 India Chaupal, speaking about working together after their divorce, Aamir had said, “Yeh koi doctor ne kaha hai ke divorce ho jata hai toh aap foran dushman ho jaate hai? Yeh meri khushnaseebi hai ke mere zindagi mein Kiran aayi aur humara safar bahut hee fulfilling raha mere liye. Bahut kuch banaya humne saath mein, personally and professionally aur agge bhi hum saath mein hee hai. Hum insaani aur jaazbaati taur pe jude huye hai aur humesha rahenge. We are like a family.” Kiran added that they enjoy working with each other.
